We have an immediate opening in our Operations Department for an experienced Operations Manager for the Container Fleet.
Applications are invited from experienced ship operators to work in this demanding position. The successful candidate will be responsible for co-ordinating the day-to-day activities of a fleet of Container Vessels in an efficient and timely manner, minimising the operational costs and controlling vessels' performance to ensure overall performance of the voyages are in line with Owners and Charterers expectations.
Primary deliverables include:
- Minimise the operational costs and controlling vessel's performance to ensure overall performance of the voyages are in line with Owners and Charterers expectations.
- Within the required timescales, provide the Master with all required information, including but not limited to, CP terms, stowage plans, discharge instructions and method statements.
- Effective co-ordination of bunker supplies in accordance with the company guidance.
- Checking freight/hire invoices upon completion of loading or upon delivery to Charterers.
- Negotiating Agency fees and appointing agents as necessary.
- Ensure all parties are continually updated on voyage orders and vessel itineraries.
- Checking and approving cargo documentation such as bills of lading and statement of facts etc.
- Attending vessels as required.
Skill Profile:
- Degree in shipping operations / Master's Certificate or equivalent.
- Ex sea-going senior officer (Chief Officer or Captain) would be an advantage.
- In-depth previous experience of carrying out the shore-based day-to-day operations of a fleet of Container Vessels is essential.
- Demonstrated understanding and awareness of vessel design, cargo types, voyage instructions, stowage plans, vessel KPI's, key ports and voyage routes.
- Proven problem solving and analytical skills together with the ability to support decisions with sound reasoning and judgement.

We are seeking to appoint an experienced and high calibre Head of Crewing to own, develop and successfully deliver our Crewing Strategy. You will have the opportunity to lead a global team of approximately 45 manning office employees across 6 countries and will be responsible for the deployment and management of Zodiac's 6000 seafarers.
THE REQUIREMENT
The Head of Crewing will have overall accountability for all aspects of crew management for the Zodiac fleet which will include Crewing Operations, Marine HR and Training, as well as owned and affiliated Manning Offices. They will drive continual improvement and performance through an innovative, impactful and commercially aligned strategy across all spectrums of crewing.
Major Activites / Primary Deliverables
Optimise Performance
- You will have strategic and operational accountability for driving and delivering optimal performance of the Crewing and Manning Office functions
- Develop and successfully execute an ambitious global crewing strategy with specific focus on recruitment and retention of qualified sea staff (officers, ratings and cadets), robust succession plans to future proof the business, and a strong proactive pipeline of talent to complement our fleet expansion plans
- Accountable for maintaining a competitive advantage by creating a more customer-focused crewing organisation
- Identify, assess and drive opportunities for strategic improvement and alignment across the manning offices
- Provide expert advice to senior stakeholders on crew retention and performance strategies as well as relevant and effective compensation structures
- Ensure timely and sufficient support to vessels on all crewing matters
Financial Management
- You will own and be accountable for budgets and cost control; through leveraging data and analytics, you will achieve cost efficiencies and identify the right areas of investment
Leadership and Management
- Provide effective, positive and timely leadership and management to all members of the crewing function
- Adapt and structure the global crewing function
- Build trust and interact effectively with key internal and external stakeholders
Health, Safety and Environmental Management
- Ensure vessels are operated to and comply with company QHSE standards and processes
Incident Management
- Provide expert support and advice to the company incident team
- If required, attend the vessel to stabilise the situation
THE INDIVIDUAL
Relevant Experience
- Senior leadership level, with domain experience in crewing operations and practices, within a global shipping company (c. 100 ship fleet)
- In-depth understanding of shipboard operations
- Seagoing experience would be an advantage
- Detailed working knowledge and understanding of maritime regulatory and certificate legislation including but not limited to ISM code, STCW and MLC 2006
